Diablo Cody is totally boss.

It's been over a week since I spoke to the coolest woman alive and needless to say, I am still freaking out.

My only goal at this year's TIFF was to meet Diablo Cody, my favourite writer, in person. I staked out red carpet sitch before the Jennifer's Body premiere (at the Ryerson Theatre!) avec my similarly celeb-crazy friends but alas, Diablo dodged the fan area and went straight for the press. I was totally bummed but I went to see the movie, hoping that it would help me forget how awesome it would have been to talk to the woman who made Sunny-D and hamburger phones cool again. However, everytime I heard Megan Fox or Amanda Seyfried whip out a wickedly witty Diablo-fied quip in the midst of the teenage bloodshed, I couldn't help but wish I'd somehow found my way into the press area. My insta-regret expanded even more during the Q & A, when she declared that she would make JB "children's toys" and "fruit snacks" if the movie did well at the box office.

As we left the theatre to head home, I saw the usual crowd of fanboys and girls huddling around the exit to the Rye Theatre, hoping to snap one final shot of Megan Fox. Suddenly, I realized that this could be my chance to see Diablo, one last time. Yelling some sort of muffled version of "Hold my stuff!", I ran into the crowd and immediately made BFFs with some girl in front. I had laringitis at the time, so I asked her, in my sorta pubscent drag queen voice, to call out "Diablo!" at the top of her lungs and hold out the magazine I had with me if a short-haired blonde chick came out. And being the BFF that she is, she screamed for Diablo, until she gravitated towards me.

My hands shaking and my voice as high as it could go (think about RuPaul level), I handed Diablo my copy of her latest EW column. She smiled and said she was really surprised and flattered that I read her articles. I told her that I also read her book and that she was ridiculously witty and awesome (I know, smooth, right?). Then she took a picture with me! Just as I went to say thank you, she got whisked away to talk to some other fans. I was too starstruck to even mind.

Throughly Mod-Cloth Emily..

Last week, I entered Mod Cloth's "Just for Kicks" contest. The contest asked girls to come up with some witty names for a few new pairs of their shoes (Mod Cloth always come up with the cutest and most pop-culture filled names!). The girl with the most creative name would win the shoes in their size, along with their name associated with the shoe. I entered every day, just for fun (or kicks, if you will). But today I got an e-mail, telling me that I won one of the pairs of shoes!

I dubbed my winning kicks - a pair of bright blue sneaks with an orange and grey striped lining - The Honest to Blog Hi-Tops. I thought the stripes were very Juno-esque and so, I gave them a name which referenced one of the most quoted lines from Diablo Cody's kickass script (that woman is a god). Apparently, they liked my train of thinking. Here's what they had to say about my entry:

"The bright, fun sneakers from Day 2 demanded something equally effervescent. We loved Emily’s Juno reference in her winning name, Honest to Blog Hi -Tops!"

DO YA LOVE IT!?! (I feel a Sneakernight comin' on!)

P.S. - Check out their totally boss description of the kicks here.

The United States of Tara's "Betrayal": Not-so-brotherly love..

When did that sweet little Andrew Lawrence become a man-slut?! He totally broke my (and Marshall's!) heart tonight on The United States of Tara.

His character, Jason, has been having a secret fling with Tara's son Marshall. Last week, the duo shared their first kiss on Marshall's bed and this week, they decided that maybe they might make their bedroom escapades a regular thing. The secret relationship was hopelessly adorable and on the verge of really going somewhere. But then, Tara's alter ego "T" came into the picture and fucked it all up.

While Marshall went inside the house to talk to his dad, T lured Jason to the shed in the backyard and came on to him. Still kind of confused about his sexuality, Jason gave in. And of course, Marshall came into the shed and saw everything.

I literally yelled "FUCK!" at the screen when this happened. Marshall is the only character on that show that seems like a decent person and they had to wreak havoc on his well-earned happiness (Diablo Cody, I'm talking to you!). I don't blame him for kicking Tara out of his room when she tried to apologize for T's slutty shenanigans later on. Even if she wasn't "herself", who wants to see, let alone talk to the person who made the person you like break your heart?

I would have totally broke up with this show if Diablo and co. hadn't redeemed themselves with the final scene of the episode. In an (uncharacteristic) act of rage, Marshall put on a Billie Holiday record and set the shed on fire. The episode ends with a bittersweet and beautiful shot of him sitting stone-faced on a lawn chair as the family watches the shed burn down. Suck it Jason and T!
